I wish it was easier to understand how the monsters are thinking. Or at least how the cult's ritual works for summoning them. If we did, maybe there's a way we could protect people.

The overseers would likely know best about how the summoning rituals work, but if they do, they haven't said so - at least not that I've heard. Even then, we'd need a way to intercept the ritual before it can affect anyone, and I don't think we know how to do that yet, either.
They weren't sure the last time I asked, but maybe now that this has happened again they have a better idea. I might try to ask them later. But tonight I think everyone needs a break.
