How can you not expect a catch?

...maybe because I've already seen what might be waiting for me at any given moment. [it happens when you spend your life kind of trapped, watched, and wanted for other people's uses.] I don't want to let worrying about what could happen stop me from doing things I want to do.

A few times, sure. Things have happened that didn't work out well. But things came after that that did. [...] I don't regret anything that's come from my life.

... There has to be at least one thing you regret, though. One thing you wish you could've done differently.

...I don't think I'd ever call them regrets is the thing. Everything that's happened up to this point worked the way it was meant to.

Meant to? What does that even mean?

...there are some things that are just set in a fixed flow. But there are others that even if you defy them, another pat opens to bring you right back to where you were supposed to go. I don't think anything that's happened or anything that was chosen was a wrong decision though. That's what I mean.

... Right. So you believe in destiny.

[residentflorist]

In a way. There's a set path for events, and everything that's happened in the past is set in stone. There's no going back to change that. But the future, even if some things are meant to happen, can still be changed. I believe that much.

Of course the past is set in stone. That's just common sense.

But if you think the future is flexible, why believe in destiny at all?

[residentflorist]

[well. not entirely common sense, but you know.]

Because there are some things that may still happen no matter how hard you try to change them. They may just come around differently than you thought, or at a time you weren't expecting.

I mean, I guess some things are inevitable. Like we're all going to die some day. But even then...

It's hard to explain, I think. Especially when there's someone out there who's doing what he can to make sure destiny continues to happen the way he wants it to.

Ah. So there's someone trying to manipulate events... There isn't a way to stop him?

That's what we're working on. Or it was before we got here. Pretty sure the only way to stop him is to kill him, but he's not going to make that easy.

That'd be nice, wouldn't it? [tiredly. she would love if sephiroth just shriveled up like the worm he is.] But given the circumstances he's somehow made himself even harder to kill.
