Digitalis Old English folklore said that foxes wore the flowers on their paws to silence movement and stealthily stalk prey. Healing, pain, insincerity, insecurity
[wow, this was absolutely a roller coaster. but when the memory settles and they're left in the darkness, aerith is quiet and patiently looking asa over to try and assess how she may be feeling after all of that.
after a few moments of silence though...]
...Asa. [just. calm. she has a lot of questions about this bodysnatching devil bullshit, but those can wait.] Are you still scared?
I'm fine now. [convincing words from the girl who's been running away from friendship since she found out it was a murder game.] What do you care, anyway?
[she's going to chase her for weeks and i hope she's prepared for that.]
Dunno. Just do. [which is an easy answer.] What's wrong with caring about the other people here even if they don't care back? Doesn't change that we're all in a bad situation. The least I can do is be kind to everyone while we can.
It is when the person I'm talking to isn't quite so suspicious to think they don't deserve someone asking about their basic well-being. [just. a note.]
Unless you're about to tell me that you personally caused all of those deaths because we didn't stay away from you...I don't think your point counts here.
Maybe it will and maybe it won't. But...I think it'd be harder on anyone to stay away from people entirely. You're still going to care if people die even if you're not close to them, aren't you?
Maybe so. But I guess for me...if it's still bound to happen, I'd rather spend the time I have with people getting to know them and trying to make good memories with them instead of waiting for the day they might leave. Yeah, it'll hurt when they do, but...I'll have those good memories of them instead of wishing I'd done more. And hopefully they'll have them, too. [a pause.] ...I want to do everything I can and not regret not acting. That's what it comes down to.
[and before it goes too far out, asa sees a really long memory until 2:13:03. all context. yay.]
[hm. this memory. bad. anyway, asa gets to see maybe the first time aerith actually does look mad.]
Shinra doesn't care about that if they get the results they want. And what they wanted was to snuff us out because we're opposing them. [...] Casualties were minimal, at least. We got a lot of people out. But the entire sector was destroyed...they're going to have to rebuild.
Do they even care enough to rebuild? [because it sure did not look like they gave a fuck...] And what do they want with you? They were practically threatening that little girl to get you to go with them...
When I was little, my mom and I used to live in that building. We left when I was still a kid. [it's the quick way around it without delving into what happened to her mom.] But...yeah. Information's part of it. There's a place they want to find, but I'm the only one who can take them there. Or so they think. But I don't even know where it is myself.

It was the devil's power making me feel more negative.

And your version of being kind to other people involves asking highly personal questions?

I can't tell if that's an example, or a threat, Asa.

I don't know if I'd call that a fact here. And facts can change with more information, can't they? So...maybe it's not like that.

They think I have the key to something they want to find. And ever since I left the first time, they've wanted me to return to keep me there.
