...from what I heard, the ritual from today was more of an arcane kind of magic. It might be why things turned out the way they did. Why it was Karlach instead of anyone else, or Boothill succumbing to the monster inside him.

I told you a little about ours, didn't I? [also a genuine question because she's not sure she gave a great explanation at all.] I wouldn't call our materia arcane, but there is other magic only a few people can use and understand.

In a sense, yes. It's more like...drawing from the same source the materia can come from, but only being used by a few very specific people. I wouldn't call it unpredictable so much as being something people aren't able to use right, because they aren't connected to it.
So... improper method, essentially. Like through an imperfect circle, or otherwise incomplete means.

[new locations are nice. if anyone thought aerith wouldn't immediately throw herself through the door in the woods idk what to tell them, but she has. and when daan inevitably makes his way through, he'll find her in an open patch of flowers on the island. she's crouched down, hands on her knees and sitting still but she seems to be very much talking to the plants. it's a little hard to hear what she's saying, but it seems to be a positive conversation judging by the tone.

I don't think that's a bad idea. Even if the reminders hurt, we need to know as much as we can to make things right. [also they'll be good for the trial they don't know about at the time of this thread.] With two of them gone...we can't even be sure what might have started this. Sorting it is good.

Mmhm, that's a good way of looking at it. That's how we ended up here in the first place, I think, with the monster affinities. A completed ritual, but not the exact method. Something like today needed to be more powerful because circumstances were already outside of what was normal.

It's what I think they'd say, at least. [her connection to this place doesn't exist at all the same as it does with the planet, but that does nothing to stop her from trying to communicate with them anyway.] We're still getting to know each other though.

It's almost like it's a "reward" for completing part of their ritual. [which is a crappy feeling given three people died for it.] But at the same time, it's something I think everyone needed right now. It would've been worse if we were still stuck in the village and could only be reminded of what happened over the last few days.
