[anyway, wherever mathis may be, aerith is approaching and gently putting a hand on his back because it is still affection week and boy howdy has this child had a week.]

...you doing okay? The last couple of days has been a lot to handle.

Th-they have been... um, I'm... all right.

[he has his knife back, at least, but there's not a lot of conviction in saying he's fine.]

But I think it's... best if I don't spend too much time with others for a while.

[oh congrats on the knife. but she frowns softly.]

I- I don't want something like that to... happen again.

Do you think it will? Things like that wear off after some time, I can't imagine somebody else would do that to you again.

I wouldn't have expected it to have the effect that it did, s-so even if something different happens, it could... still be a problem.

[residentflorist]

But that shouldn't mean you stay alone, Mathis. That isn't good either in case it gets too overwhelming or you hurt yourself. [considering, uh, what happened yesterday at the festival.] Even if it's just one person, there has to be someone you can trust yourself with. What about Lucas?

H-he already insisted I stay with him tonight, yes.

[mathis is his water bottle, he's watching him.]

Good. You two are staying in the church tonight then?

I'm... not certain yet, I'm sorry... w-we'll decide later.

[when you're worried about someone coming back BLEEDING OUT but your reflex is to isolate]

Don't apologize. I think we've all had a lot of other things to focus on without much breathing room. [...] You left pretty fast after the others came back.

[it was a mess, she could have easily missed he returned with more supplied. but she did see him run.]

I- know that Monsieur Daan has experience, b-but that didn't seem like...

[a little shake of his head.]

I went to send a note, and ask whether they could help.

Daan's the best we have, especially when Alfyn was one of the ones who came back. A few of us know how to patch up wounds, but it was scary to think it might not be enough. [she can kind of infer what he means.]

Were you able to reach them, then?

[cumulative]

Yes. I- I at least got more supplies to treat them with, so hopefully if anything else goes wrong, we'll... still be all right.

Smart thinking. Thank you. [genuinely, because they were all severely unprepared for this.] I sent them a message updating them, too, but I didn't get a chance to ask for extra supplies. I wanted to get back right away.

...it might not hurt to ask for more stuff like that in advance. Just in case.
