It's about time we did, too. We've been waiting for long enough.
[ there's something tense in his posture because of that, probably, but he still smiles! ]
I'm trying to be ready for whatever will come now, but it's difficult to know what to expect. I still wonder if the living will tell us what they have planned. [ leans over to peer at her book... ] Did something catch your eye?
Not wrong! [she's cheerful about it, but the underlying emotion is still frustration. let her out? let her out!!!]
We might have a better idea when everybody settles down and we can talk a little more about our next steps and what we can do for each other. I know we all talked a little yesterday, but today might be easier for some more clarity. We can hope we get some letters from them today, but...we might have to act on our own for a while.
[she looks at the book in her hand and shows him the cover. it appears to be a book of ghost stories.]
Nothing that interesting, I guess. Just...trying to stay busy for now.
Now that we know more about how to spend those rocks... [ still at a loss for exactly what to do, though. hmmm. ] I wish they would tell us what their plans are so we can be prepared, but you may be right. At any rate, we won't be lacking in things to think about.
[ it is frustrating, though. ]
Ghost stories... how surprising. I never expected you to be interested in such things.
They might think it's safer not to tell us. We don't know if the cult will be watching them closer now that their numbers dropped so far and the ritual preparations are starting. But even a little hint to that would be helpful!
[please!!! but she shrugs to that.]
I'm usually not, but I'm kind of living one right now, y'know? [resident spooky pink ghost...] I didn't think it'd give me any ideas, but maybe it will.
...Maybe. It would make sense that they'd want to keep a closer eye on their remaining sacrifices, but I agree that warning us of that would be useful.
[ troubling that they haven't. ]
Hahaha! You never know, though! There are many stories of how spirits have reached out to the living, after all... Perhaps it would even help you once you've returned home?
[ he's choosing to believe that they will manage that, even if he doesn't know how. ]
Letters might not be fast enough...so maybe something different. [the idea of phones...she's percolating...]
Oh, I know! I hear them sometimes. [just casually says this. normally she would be a little more subtle about her own abilities but this is a literal sword spirit, first of all, and secondly it's been two months. if she can't trust iwa by now, who the hell is she?] It's possible. Not getting home isn't an option. It's about figuring out what to do from there. For all of us.
Someone suggested speaking directly with Muelsyse-dono to share information, but I imagine she must be very busy on that side, too.
Do you...? Is that part of being non-human for you? [ how fascinating... does that mean she'd be able to see him even if he hadn't been summoned in this body? or hear him, at least?
he nods, though! ] Of course. Some of you still have a lot to return to, don't you?
Yeah. With only one of her and multiple of them, plus the cult already acting, she's definitely got her hands full. I'd like to find a way to take some of the burden off of the four of them.
[there's a little nod.]
Being Cetra means being connected to the planet in a way other people aren't. I can hear her, and I can use her power to help with my own. And sometimes it means hearing the people who're heading back to the lifestream after they've left the planet itself. Sometimes it's little things. And sometimes they connect to me directly, even if I don't always understand it.
[she hasn't really talked much about it here because it's a strange but particular set of circumstances.]
I can't think of any of us who don't have something going on by now, even if the something's small. We have Sephiroth to stop. And I'm sure you have things, too, while you wait for Imanotsurugi to return. Right?
The less we have to ask of them, the better, I think. They have enough on their minds as it is. I wish it weren't so difficult to coordinate, though...
Using the planet's power to boost your own... I see. Then it makes sense that you would hear their voices, in that case. Spirits are a part of nature, whether they're of people or of objects or tools, like me. You sound a little similar to my master, in that way.
[ being able to hear spirits and connect with them in a way others can't is exactly what the saniwa does, or he wouldn't exist. ]
True. I haven't had a proper mission in a while, I've been serving my master at the citadel while we wait. But... I think it will be an adjustment, going back to our lives after all of this.
Something like that. Kinda like...my power is hers, and hers is mine. Cetra are stewardesses of the planet. It means being able to act in her will, and work with her for our own power. Anything to protect her from harm. [so yeah, she nods. it makes sense even if it was weird as a child and scared her.] You think so? You've always spoken so highly of them.
[and yeah...there's the matter of going back.]
We all have a lot to figure out when we return. Especially when it comes to being around people who haven't experienced what we have. It's one of those things you have to wonder how much you can say, if anything.
As long as we can move quickly enough that they have what they need before the ritual.
I see. But if that's the case, would you even be able to use those powers if you're away from her? [ sometimes powers are bound to a specific object or location... maybe it's not an issue in her home world, but here? ] In a way. Their magic seems to focus on spirits, summoning, and whatever maintenance we need, but that requires them to be able to connect with us in the first place. It's not a common ability for most humans in our world.
It's impossible to avoid, isn't it? After so long, there's no way that our absence went unnoticed.
Not all of them, but there are other things I could do if my abilities weren't sealed here. [she is still a mage.] It sounds like a very big job for your master though...especially because there's so many of you, right? So they must be very strong to connect to so many of you to bring to their side.
Even if somehow we find a way to return to the time we left, that doesn't change what happened to us. There's no turning ourselves back, you know? People will notice.
