I'm...not sure I like that this is what you were expecting, but I get it. Knowing what their intention is though, at least we can start thinking of what to do to make sure their ritual doesn't happen.

The phony War said we should start by finding our partners, but those four are insane if they think we're about to take them at their word. Anyone can say one thing and do another.

So much of it looked staged after a while it was hard to know what could and couldn't have been real. [why...is it the phony war. what happened here.] You think it'd be worse to actually try to find out who has what affinity?

[she's not sharing her thoughts on this yet, but she's sort of very much not sure she wants to find hers either, actually.]

How could it not be worse? We'll be dragging them down with us if we die. I can't do that to somebody else.

[well. those are actually her thoughts, yeah, but perhaps not quite for the same reasons.]

There isn't a guarantee anyone's going to die. We have time to find a way to stop it.

Does that mean you're willing to risk it?

Probably not. I can't risk something happening to me when they're here, too. [gonna explain aerith? no, not yet apparently.] But if it could help after all...

We don't know what the upgrade would be like, or even how significant of a wish we would get in return. If you think they were telling the truth at all.

No. I believe we're going to get out of here and no one's going to die, but I also believe adding something that could be a risk isn't smart when we don't know what could come from it. Both of those things can be true, can't they?

What other risks do you think there are, besides dying?

...depends. You mean a risk for finding your partner? Or for being here at all?

... Partner, I guess. Everything about this town is risky.

It would depend on the power and how it was boosted, I think. [she like. isn't super thrilled with this possibility and seems hesitant to even suggest she's thinking about it, but...] If there's something so powerful that it could change how a person thinks or feels...there could be a risk of a partner finding their match and then not caring at all what happens to them so long as they get what they want out of it.

[it is entirely possible someone could get their boost and make their wish and then still do something risky to take them both out or even get corrupted enough and take out their partner themselves. there are all sorts of fucky possibilities here.]

You think there's a power strong enough to consume someone like that? I thought our wishes would only come true if we survived, though...

Maybe. We're really only going to know our own powers unless people feel like sharing later. Who knows what the balance is. [but she shakes her head.] That might be something we need to ask them though. About the wishes.

... Well, I already planned to ask about the monsters. So I'll have to remember to ask about the wishes while we're on the subject.

It can't hurt. Maybe you'll get a different answer depending on who you ask. It could be smart to compare with each other later.

Right. Then... I'm going to talk to War. If you have that conversation with one of the others, will you tell me about it?

Yeah, of course. I did mean it when I said it would help to compare. I don't think any of us have anything to hide from each other when it comes to what we can learn.
