[ it may said like a joke, but there's a brief flash of surprise from robin. she remembers that aerith and the rest are fighting against a great capitalist company that runs everything, and they all come from different paths of life. ]
I would. But I think you'd be one for valid reasons because you took an action you believed was right or an unfair one because Shinra is that kind of corporation.
[ she smiles. ]
You were doing what he asked, as well. It's a little prank to make things more spirited. He can take it. [ a beat. ] He may try to curse you back if he ever finds out.
[oh. she looks a little shocked but also pleased that robin remembers.]
You're right to guess they're the ones with the bounty out for us. Different amounts for different reasons. We've been to a few towns where people were told to look out for us, but luckily a lot of them have similar feelings. Keep your head down and mind your own business, there's no trouble.
[but back to gojo.]
That's the excuse I'm gonna give if he asks. [gojo does not need to know the letter came in after that.] And he can try, but somehow I doubt he would. He knows better.
It's worked out well enough. [aside from how they actually met yuffie, but that's not a story she needs to share right now.]
It's a little sad I didn't get to spend more time on the other side of things. I think maybe we would've eventually warmed up to the idea of being partners and could have done something great together. He's so strange sometimes, but...he's a good kid. Difficult to read by design, sometimes, but I think that has more to do with how he was born than anything else. It's why I don't mind teasing him.
[gojo is a little freak but aerith learned a few things about him in their short time together that made her kind of go "i see, you just have pressure on you."]
It can be hard to be born with a gift you don't always know how to use as well as you know you're capable of.
[and that is all she says on that particular part of it.]
When we first got here, the three of us thought it was better to wait. We didn't know what the catch was, or how this could turn out. And for me personally...I guess I thought it was a little unfair to tie someone to someone like me. I'm not sure what his reasons were, but we had talked about it a little before we even traded monsters.
[ whoa... wonder why aerith and gojo could possibly be partners... ]
It's always wise to look for the fine print.
[ she understands not wanting to trust a wish offered without much further explanation... or not tying your life to someone. those are all valid reasons. ]
Yuffie found hers not too long ago, but Cloud and I came here before we could. I found Gojo the week before I died, but Cloud never found Daan. Maybe if we'd stayed longer, we might've changed our minds.
[but with that...she grins a little with a shrug.]
A detriment, maybe? I'm not a strong fighter like those two are. Not without my magic.
It makes sense. If everyone was trying to protect each other, it really did become safety in numbers for a while. I don't blame them. It's...unfortunate how things have turned out though.
[that's very sweet robin, thank you.]
I appreciate that. Sometimes I don't know if that's enough though, you know? With everything we still have left to do here and at home, sometimes it feels a little...hard. Especially if the things I can do may not work the way I want them to.
It's difficult to let people go. It's even more difficult to send them off when you know you can stop them. Our hands being forced because of the ritual doesn't make it any easier. At least... some people gained something, even if it isn't enough to make up for being here.
[ aerith will soon make texting with the living happen, so robin is validated in the future. for now... ]
I know how it feels to think you're never doing enough, that you can always do more or do better. That what you're trying doesn't make as much of impact or difference that you wanted, or that you'll be remembered for the wrong things... and your planet may depend on you, but that's why I started to think touching one life is enough. If you help one person and that leads to that person helping someone else, your reach expands.
So it seems. I do wish we knew if the things they earned for themselves were actually guaranteed, but I get the feeling we won't know until we're actually out of here. Nothing can help recover from the damage of losing your friends or losing yourself...but maybe there's still a way to fix it.
[she listens though, because these are definitely words of wisdom. it makes sense, really. a ripple effect. you touch the life of one person, who then touches the life of someone else, who then continues on until it becomes about helping each other seamlessly.]
...does your planet depend on you, Robin? Your city. [what's it like for her?] The important thing is always to be kind and hope that kindness is extended to others, but sometimes you can't help but wonder if it's enough.

[ she likes the imagery of aerith menacing gojo. ]
I don't think I've seen you two interact. I think I'd like to see it.

Why were you against having a partner?
