Me, too. [this isn't good for anyone, and it means tomorrow's going to be a mess. how are they supposed to solve anything when they barely got by by the skin of their teeth last time?] ...the overseers seemed to think it was likely the cult would keep trying to ritually summon monsters and something like last week would happen again. But that doesn't explain why it happened the way it did.
[i.e. she is not convinced all three bodies were because a monster went out of control.]
...it's also possible that two of them were partners who found one another. When I asked earlier, the overseers weren't sure when, exactly the other person would die. [so that's....fun.] But with everything those items had to offer, I don't think it would surprise any of us to find out it was someone's motivation.
[but it's still...she can't understand it. there are other ways to make things work than to actually give in and willingly help the cult, essentially.]
I was hoping this week would bring people together more, not divide us further.
I'm not sure if that's a possibility I'd prefer. On one hand, they didn't have to die brutally, but... to not know it was coming is also cruel.
[ it'd make the trial simpler to solve, but even if she acknowledged the notion of what finding a partner means, this result is still horrible to behold. ]
Both times we gathered this week, everyone seemed friendly enough. [ when they weren't being hate arrowed. ] To think it would still happen after all that...
[she moves to take her hand, and then she seems to pause like "hm is that weird after the last few days." but it's fine, she settles for resting a hand on her anyway because it's still affection week.]
We don't know how it could have happened either. But I think it's the idea of not knowing when that's the hard part. [you could be tied to a partner and just like that...it's over.]
...if part of this is the result of an afflicted person, then it's likely they were already among us both times we were together. Nothing was going to change them losing control. But if it was the work of someone acting for an item or just because, then that makes it even worse. Hiding amongst us with that kind of intention.
[ it's fine. affection week trumps all. her fingers curl to hold aerith's hand. what's happened over the past couple days doesn't negate that she still cares and that she still likes holding her hand. ]
It's going to be difficult any way you look at it, but if the Overseers can't answer the question of when, we'll have to strive for our own conclusions.
[ they are going to struggle. ]
.. The afflicted did not ask to be, but... even for those who aren't, I want to be able to hear them out. I want to know why.
I asked Famine after the ritual preparations on Saturday. They weren't sure if it'd be immediate, mostly because it hadn't happened yet. They may have a different answer for us now if that's really the case here. Either way, you're right. We'll have to find our own way. There's only so much help they can provide us without putting themselves at a risk, too. But it's going to be harder than last time...tensions are going to be high.
[she's worried that people are just going to cause more fights because they're lacking answers and looking for someone to blame rather than actually work together to figure stuff out. she very much hopes she's wrong about that possibility.]
...I think I'd like to know why, too. It's one thing to be acting when you're not in your own mind, but I'd like to know what sort of incentive a person would have to act on their own and see this through. We'll have to watch and make sure no one tries to hurt them before the vote is finalized though.
I'm worried the tension may rise to a point that's too high for some, and I don't want it to reach to the point of regrets.
[ she is also thinking fights are going to happen. how many will go straight to fighting, and how many will try to keep the peace? three deaths when they've only done the trial ritual once.... they know what to expect, but none of them are used to this yet. ]
There is much to watch for. We don't want any more victims for any reason. We only solved one last week, and even that was too close to the end.
[ she doesn't want any midtrialing, but i, ara, do. ]
Then we can't let it. [this is much easier said than done, especially when there's no predicting just how off the rails tomorrow will go, but it's what she has to focus on right now. she has to focus on keeping the peace and solving what happened to get answers, or it's going to make their morale worse.
she's already feeling pretty terrible about these circumstances. the best she can do now is try to keep other people going.]
If Boothill hadn't started acting up toward the end, there's a good chance we would have missed all the signs. We'll have to make sure everyone shares what they know right away so that we can start understanding everything. I don't want to think about what'll happen if we miss.
[i'm going to hate when one day they have these conversations and you turn out to be a culprit fwiw.]
[ robin is primarily someone who prefers to support more than someone who takes noticeable action, but she can and she will if she thinks become too dire (and when isn't it dire when you're from a video game or in a murder game). ]
I have a feeling there will be so much we'll have to try to understand. There isn't a pattern yet, but... if the afflicted will act up in some way, perhaps that's something we can look for, too, outside of seeing what the evidence tells us.
[ if murderers take mercy and the mods let them.... ]
We'll have to mitigate whatever damage we can. I don't want to tolerate how much blood only begets more blood here.
[ midtrial or post trial me if i'm a culprit please ]
It's just another reason we have to try and get to know everyone as well as we can, isn't it? Knowing what a person's really like...it'll be easier then to know if something changes about them and how to handle it when it happens. [they'll be able to go "oh you are so possessed, aren't you." a little faster. it's a faint hope, and it's not like she wants that to be the answer, but what else is there?]
I wonder if there really will be a pattern or if we're meant to guess so we have a harder time stopping this. [will that stop them? no. but just a thought. also ara i will absolutely midtrial you if you're a culprit.] It's an unfair system, isn't it? All we wanted was to stop the ritual and instead we have to take part in a different one just to save people. And for some of us...that may not even feel like we're saving them at all. All we can do is remember the right thing isn't always the easy one.
I haven't expected any fairness... only a fighting chance, but none of this is easy at all.
[ robin hesitates to say if there is even a right thing in whatever options they have the most. killing to save lives doesn't negate that they're still killing to her. it weighs on her, but she acknowledges necessity. ]
I don't want it to be pattern—or to view it as one. [ that's just her bleeding heart, though. she can come back to some pragmatism in a bit. ] But if there is some kind of way... or logic... to make it less drawn out, I'll take it.
[ whether it's hoping they can spot the possessed in a shot or otherwise. ]
It doesn't even feel like we get that very often. [which is just another thing that frustrates her. how are they supposed to fight back if the playing field is so uneven it may as well be a whole other game?]
...I don't like that this seems to be one. This is two weeks in a row now, and when I spoke to War they seemed to think the cult would continue summoning monsters. It means there's the chance of this happening more and more. But if it's a ritual they're using there must be a way to dismantle it. Even if it's just making one of the steps impossible for them. [whatever that might look like.] ...but I'm not sure what to look for yet.
...maybe we can try to think if there's anything the three of them had in common. Even a small connection might help us understand what would make them appealing to a monster. [and then work backwards to "perhaps this is why a certain monster was summoned, and if we remove what they want they can't anymore"]

One could be the ritual again, but... with what opened by the swamp... I wonder how many of those were tempting.
