It's hard, you know? Even now I still want to swim somewhere and attack any of you. I hate this.
[Don't become monster berserk, Aerith, it's not great]
Because I'm not good at killing, is why. No idea how the pitchfork through the back wasn't enough.
I didn't even know he woke up at some point after he was in the barrel.
[A pitchfork to the back to skewer everything in the torso should have been enough to kill, she was sure! But somehow it wasn't. Karma was greatly wounded but fought a little, and that led to further damage inflicted to him, and not even that was enough because yeah, he woke up in the barrel and Erin didn't know of that until the trial happened]
[she would love to not be a monster, but this is...interesting.]
I guess that explains the draw to the beach. The call of water, right? [she shakes her head.] None of us understand how these monsters are affecting us, or if they're aiding us in how to hurt other people. It should have been enough, but...Karma's never been the type to take an attack lying down. [she squints though.] What about his eye?
[she's also trying to understand how, exactly, erin had time to set a trap. that's a little impressive.]
He fought after he was skewered. The kid was standing there, staring at the ukelele I set as a lure beforehand, and then he didn't die when stabbed. He turned around and tried to fight! Not that much of a fight because he was bleeding and what not, but he shot at me. Hit me once. [Would have been circumstantial against her, since it'd have been a pretty small bruise on her leg, yup] So I got the gun from his hands and shot at him to the head hoping it'd kill him.
[Yeah, she too didn't know that wasn't a real gun. She shot, Karma crumpled, and she thought that was it. Didn't even notice Karma was still alive, while she shoved his unconscious body into a barrel.
Overall Erin's plan was very well planned, and at the same time sloppily executed. It's such a paradox, really]
[...well. the ukulele makes sense now given music and sirens and what-have-you. of course if someone was entranced they'd have to follow. but the longer erin talks, the more aerith seems to frown. it's difficult to say what she's thinking, but she's struggling a little to figure out what part of this was the monster and what part of this might have been erin herself in an attempt to get what the monster part wanted.
even if she was possessed, this is a lot to hear. but she has to try and understand it if there's any hope of figuring out the rest here.]
And you carried him in the barrel by yourself back to the beach? [where...he was then rolled while trying to claw himself out.]
[Not even herself would be able to say for sure. Possession really blurs the lines, she has found. As much as she blames the monster possessing her, it's really eating at her that she can't fully separate things]
Pretty much! Rolled it a lot of the way there.
[All that rolling probably contributed to rousing Karma, really]
[she thinks it's a little weird they didn't find other indents in the ground or that the barrel didn't break but it's fine. murder logic. that matters less to her.]
With the rocks already inside of it? [no wait go back to why karma wasn't bruise.] ...but I guess if it was sealed up already it wouldn't have made a difference. It was just sending him back out to sea.
[It's funny, when I work in a case during the trials I read the tags players discussing why something happened or didn't happen, and I think to myself 'oh damn it i should have realized that' and by funny I mean it's so frustrating, haha. No case will be perfectly crafted in terms of evidence but also golly I wish I could achieve that result]
Pretty much.
Flip, I hate I'm feeling both celebratory and ashamed about how cruel it was.
[Karma did a lot wrong but he sure didn't deserve any of what Erin did, geez. She hates the monster currently fighting for takeover enjoyed doing all that]
That's the monster possession for you, it seems. All the reason you weren't able to tell us anything sooner, right? That's something we all talked about. It wants you to get away with these things at all costs. [and that's kind of dangerous, she thinks.]
...you said you used the ukulele as a lure, right? Was the coconut tree at the beach you, too?
The tree? [That makes Erin laugh. It sounds awful and a tad too loud because the monster also felt like laughing, but it's a little bitter] Had no idea that happened, until I heard about that in the trial. It must have been Karma. Nobody else could have done that before the Friday investigations.
[Unbeknown to Erin at the time, rolling the barrel damaged it enough for the awoken Karma to peer through a hole or two, while she prepared for plunging it into the ocean. That's her guess, from having heard data during the trial.
Which leads to one conclusion:]
How absolutely dark, isn't it? If Karma did that then I'm almost certain Karma was my partner.
[She has no way of confirming since, well, Karma is dead, but she's very sure she's right]
[she's not so sure about that, but she tilts her head in thought. it's kind of interesting to see what might be monster and what might be monster, but it reminds her that there was never enough time to really be able to get to know her well enough. would any of them really be able to tell now?]
It's hard to say. We know all of you passed through the beach that night, but I guess I was just wondering. There's no saying if you two were partners, but if you were...[yet another string of bad luck, isn't it?] Did you ever want to find yours at all?
