[ kate, who is normally pretty deadpan... enters the funky fashionista shop and collapses to the floor dramatically, like she's just reached an oasis in the desert. ]
aerith is actually sizing up one of the mannequins as if she's debating if she likes a particular outfit, but there's suddenly a kate dropping to the floor and expressing that sentiment that it makes her laugh and shift her attention.]
Welcome to paradise? [honestly this is extremely funny to her because kate has been so serious, but...she's also young. and makeovers is on her poster, if aerith remembers right, so. perhaps.]
Looks like it! I've seen people come and go and take things without a problem. I was thinking of doing the same if I found something I liked. [again, biggest mood.] There's a lot of options. What sort of things do you usually like?
[well. it's affection week so she's also not letting go immediately, that can be up to kate. instead, she will begin to lead her forward so they can browse.]
I've been looking at those, too. [this really could be an opportunity for aerith to try wearing pants and she said "no."] They have different kinds and different lengths...lots of colors, too. What's your favorite?
It looks nice on you. [idly but sincerely. this does just make her wonder though what other inconsequential choices kate never really got to make for herself. ] But I bet a blue or a green would look cute, too.
[she's thinking on this...]
You don't have to take them, but it could be fun to try something else, too. See if it's another style you like. [be elaborate on how you just made this your own.]
... I think it would be fun to try something new. Something light and easy to move around in would be nice, too...
[ checking out the dresses and holding them up just to see how the fabric swishes... there's so much more movement than her relatively rigid attire. ]
... Because shadows don't have faces, it's hard to tell us apart. We have to wear the same clothes whenever we appear in public, in order to distinguish ourselves.
[she's taking in these words...it makes sense that shadows would use clothes to build an identity. without a distinct face, how would they know each other otherwise? but here, of course, was a different story. there was only one of kate.]
Makes sense. Like a uniform, sort of. And no two shadows could have the same clothes either. [she's aware of how easy it could be to disguise yourself simply by wearing certain clothes.]
...the good thing is we all know who you are now. Changing your clothes won't change that. [she's watching her go, seeing what she gravitates toward first.] We could try to find something a little shorter and one layer. See how it feels on you and everything.
[sometimes you just change clothes and blend in with the army. as you do. but she'll follow along to see what kate might pick for herself, though aerith seems to be gravitating toward light, summer-y dresses and some flowy skirts.]
I haven't thought about it much, I guess. Probably things that are easy to move in for when I'm outside or when we're fighting. But we didn't have a lot of options available where I'm from. They were pretty expensive. [flipping through racks...] I think every girl wants to look nice, don't they?
[give her a second, she's going to reach up and hold out a white flared skirt for her. yes? no? she's not sure how she'll feel about light colors given the soot, so she's also grabbing a loose one in a lighter red. it keeps her busy so she can answer the question.]
We've had to lately. [an honest answer.] There are a lot of people who want to stop us from what we're doing, so we fight when we have to. And there's monsters in the wild, so we have to fight those off, too.
[ ... she takes the white skirt and holds it in front of herself by a mirror. maybe...? if she can change clothes often, then maybe she doesn't have to worry about lighter colors. ]
All kinds of things. [she just watches her do this to see how she likes it, though she's reaching for a pale blue top for herself.] Depends on where you are. Different kinds of rats, different kinds of birds, plants, mammals...machinery. Stuff like that. But they all have different strengths and weaknesses. Hit 'em with the right magic and that'll take them down faster.
Yeah. Have you talked to Yuffie about materia yet? [before she launches into an explanation. she just assumes anyone who has met yuffie even once will know about this somehow because of who yuffie is.]
[she kind of closes her eyes because yuffie...what good is it explaining you want them without telling people what they are...]
They're small orbs made of crystallized mako, which is the liquid form of our planet's lifestream. It's where energy comes from, and it's what keeps the planet alive. It's what heals and protects her, and it's very powerful. Materia can be made from mako, and it becomes a means to use different spells and help us fight.
[she takes a few steps back to give herself some room, pulling her staff out of her jacket and extending it to its full length to show her the center where the empty materia chambers are.]
They usually go into slots like this on our weapons, and then we can use them to cast all kinds of things. There are a lot of common ones that people can use or buy or just find, but there are also some really rare ones, too. Powerful ones.
That's right. As long as you have the right materia for what you want to do, you can use them. All of our friends have different kinds, but we overlap sometimes with elemental spells. Most of mine are used for healing, protection and spells like fire, ice and lightning.
[there are in fact six or so slots on the staff that are meant to house her materia. she doesn't think to go into an explanation about the other magic she's able to do, but this will do for now.]
Don't worry, it'll be our secret. [hehe.] ...it's a little frustrating that this place brought our weapons here but removed the materia. It's a lot harder to help now without it.
Week 1, Monday
Finally.

We can take these, right? I don't want to go another day with just one or two outfits to cycle through.

Dresses, I suppose...

I've been looking at those, too. [this really could be an opportunity for aerith to try wearing pants and she said "no."] They have different kinds and different lengths...lots of colors, too. What's your favorite?

[ looking down at her victorian-ass red dress with a gazillion layers. ]
I never really chose this look in the first place, but it feels like I've made it my own.

I'd like that.
What kind of clothes do you like, Aerith?

Do you do a lot of fighting? I know you mentioned it before, but...
[ she doesn't look like someone who'd get into a lot of fights. ]
