[cults continue to ruin lives, it seems. but when everyone finally disperses and leaves the garden to go about their new, normal lives, she finds herself walking through the town. she's mostly going off on her own to take a breather, but when she sees someone familiar she pauses in her steps.

the thing is...she thinks it's already pretty unfair that this is happening. but she also really hates that there are so many kids who're now stuck in this same situation, and especially someone young like kate who seems to be from a place where being removed shouldn't exactly be so easy. she doesn't approach too quickly, though she lifts a hand in greeting just to alert her of aerith's presences.]

Hey there...how are you doing after all of that?

[sootprints]

Ah...

[ she stops, faces her, and seems to glance away, uncertain of how her appearance will be received. in addition to her usual shadowy appearance, there appears to be smoke rising from the top of her head. ]

... There are a lot of unpleasant aspects to consider.

[residentflorist]

[oh. baby. well she won't say it isn't a surprise that there is a lack of a face and the smoke wafting off of here, but like...one of her close friends is a weird lion-dog creature. people like karlach and laudna are running around. it's strange, but she doesn't seem to think it's anything to shy away from.]

The cult was a surprise. [mildly.] Looks like we're going to be here for a little longer than we expected.

[sootprints]

Yes... unfortunately. This is a terrible time to be away from the manor.

[residentflorist]

[she's heading back to the church, but today was pretty rocky for everyone. it means that the moment she sees kate, she does slow down and kind of changes her path to approach her.]

Kate. [just a little greeting.] ...how are you doing after all of that?

[sootprints]

[ she stops... and it takes a moment to respond. she seems to be taking slow, deliberate breaths. ]

... I'm all right.

I just -- a lot just happened.

[residentflorist]

[it's fine. she can be patient and let her take a few breaths, leaning up against the wall of the building and keeping her eyes on her.]

It's been a couple of days without any kind of break. I'd be surprised if any of us weren't affected in some way...especially when our whole goal was to not lose anyone else. And it's probably overwhelming, isn't it?

[sootprints]

... A bit.

After all... what happened to Boothill could happen to any of us.

Week 1, Monday

[sootprints]

[ kate, who is normally pretty deadpan... enters the funky fashionista shop and collapses to the floor dramatically, like she's just reached an oasis in the desert. ]

Finally.

[residentflorist]

[GIRL, SAME.

aerith is actually sizing up one of the mannequins as if she's debating if she likes a particular outfit, but there's suddenly a kate dropping to the floor and expressing that sentiment that it makes her laugh and shift her attention.]

Welcome to paradise? [honestly this is extremely funny to her because kate has been so serious, but...she's also young. and makeovers is on her poster, if aerith remembers right, so. perhaps.]

[sootprints]

[ pulling herself up from the floor... ]

We can take these, right? I don't want to go another day with just one or two outfits to cycle through.

[residentflorist]

[offering a hand to help her up, honestly.]

Looks like it! I've seen people come and go and take things without a problem. I was thinking of doing the same if I found something I liked. [again, biggest mood.] There's a lot of options. What sort of things do you usually like?

Week 1, Sunday

[sootprints]

[ somewhere outdoors after the execution ritual. ]

It looks like it's over for now... but there's still too much that we don't know.

[residentflorist]

[we are outdoors and on the island probably because spooky town is still depressing.]

There are a lot of questions and not enough answers. I can't disagree with that one. [she's been mulling over several of them herself since yesterday.] But we have to think about the things we managed to find, too.

[two out of three is much better than any of them expected, but at what cost.]

[sootprints]

... We did. Although...

I wish we could have done something, anything, better. For Erin and Nona...

[residentflorist]

[once again she is gently setting her hand on kate's head.]

I do, too. It kinda feels unfair that this is the kinder option for them, huh? [the other option being letting a monster continue to take over and fight them.] ...we may not be able to do anything for them now, but we can at least do something to remember them, and keep remembering them while we're here. Our last memories of them shouldn't have to be only those moments.

Week 2, Monday

[sootprints]

[ hello aerith, it's a lovely day to be unceremoniously yanked into a memory-void!

they see a memory.

as a note: yes, kate is speaking in the third person in this clip. that's not just a weird translation thing. your character can absolutely notice that and think it's weird. ]

[residentflorist]

[she does in fact notice this and she does think it's weird, but that's kind of secondary to everything else that's going on right now. aerith watches this memory, and for a moment she's letting herself think on several things she wants to ask. she's curious if what this robed figure is saying has any basis. she's wondering what happened to whoever rosemary and victor are. she's concerned by how much kate might actually know about the shadows house.

but one thing at a time to ease into things.]

Who are the Star Bearers, Kate?

[sootprints]

[ there's soot rising from her head as she watches that memory... just a small amount. but she does look tense.

...

but she takes a breath, and stays composed. ]

They're the leaders of the children's wing, who organize events, handle matters of discipline, and report to the adults.

[ they're like the student council of the spooky house. ]

Week 6, Tuesday

[sootprints]

[ sees aerith and freezes for a second. but then she relaxes a little. ]

Oh. You're your usual self again...

[ relief. baby aerith was adorable but she was really very scared of showing her non-face to her. ]

[residentflorist]

[she waves and offers a little smile.]

Looks like it. It only lasted for a couple of hours, but it was probably a little weird. Sorry. [as an adult, aerith can at least recognize what the problem might've been so she doesn't mind.] But I am glad I ran into you today. I wanted to see how you were settling in.

[sootprints]

Oh... good. It was no problem, it's just... I never know how someone is going to react.

[ Aerith never treated her strangely, but Kate knows that people aren't necessarily the same when they're children. ]

... I'm getting used to it, I think.

w6 thursday

[residentflorist]

[a lot happened when the three of them came back and presumably once kate was done being passed around like a football she managed to make her way to the springs. aerith checks there first, and then the hospital, and then she tries to go and see if she can find her in her apartment if nothing else.

ms. kate, where are you...?]

[sootprints]

[ karlach brought her to the springs so i guess this is where she is. she's just put her cloak back on. it still has a hole in the side. kate looks exactly the same as when she came back. did she get healed? who can say. ]

... Um, is everyone going to be okay?

[ IT LOOKED REAL BAD BACK THERE. ]

[residentflorist]

[she'll just wait for her to get out of the water, monitoring how kate's moving to determine if she should be healed more.]

I hope so! [our body count is four by now.] ...usually when people are killed here, they're back the next day. It might feel a little strange to them for a day or so, but they'll be alright.
