[she does in fact notice this and she does think it's weird, but that's kind of secondary to everything else that's going on right now. aerith watches this memory, and for a moment she's letting herself think on several things she wants to ask. she's curious if what this robed figure is saying has any basis. she's wondering what happened to whoever rosemary and victor are. she's concerned by how much kate might actually know about the shadows house.

Who are the Star Bearers, Kate?

[sootprints]

[ there's soot rising from her head as she watches that memory... just a small amount. but she does look tense.

but she takes a breath, and stays composed. ]

They're the leaders of the children's wing, who organize events, handle matters of discipline, and report to the adults.

[ they're like the student council of the spooky house. ]

[she's watching the soot...]

So someone who could really get you in trouble if they thought you were in the wrong. [she knows how kids can be, so this makes sense to her.] You seemed to know who was under that robe. Was it who you expected...?

[sootprints]

Yes.

I'd been investigating an incident for the past week, and all of the evidence led to one person.

[residentflorist]

[that doesn't sound great.]

What sort of incident is that?

[sootprints]

The appearance of a Phantom... a sort of monster made of soot. It attacked and harmed several people. My investigation uncovered the fact that someone created it and set it loose on purpose.

[residentflorist]

[there's a little hum like "isn't that always the way?"]

Sounds troublesome. But you were also able to get rid of the Phantom, too, right? It's not out there hurting other people anymore.

[sootprints]

... That's right. There won't be any more Phantoms.

[residentflorist]

And your friends. The ones that were hurt. Are they going to be okay, too? [this feels like a lot of responsibility for someone, regardless of age.]

[sootprints]

... Most of them.

However, there is a rule that someone must always take responsibility when there is an incident. By the time I solved the case, the Star Bearers had already issued punishment to their chosen scapegoat.

All I really did was save myself from being their next target.

[residentflorist]

[she frowns to that one.]

...I know it might not feel like it, but that isn't always a bad thing. You tried your best to make sure things would work out, didn't you? I'm sure they knew that and would want to know you were making yourself safer. But...if the Star Bearers are are responsible, shouldn't they have spent more time trying to find who the real culprit was?

[sootprints]

You're not the only one to think that. After this and another incident that followed, the Star Bearers ended up resigning, and an election was held to elect a new leader among the children.

[residentflorist]

Probably for the best. If they can't actually do their job, then it isn't a job they're worthy of having.

[which is all she gets to say on the matter before memories interrupt until 1:54:52. i'm sorry to give you rufus pazu.]

[ she's silent at that, but the silence is quickly broken by another memory. ]

Is that man... your enemy?

[ from that conversation, it seemed complicated... ]

[that's a good question.]

...he's part of the problem, in a way. The president of Shinra died recently, and in the time since then his son was inaugurated to become the new president. Shinra's a company that...has a lot of control and influence over the world. And they don't care who they harm to get the results they want and stay ahead. We don't know what, exactly, Rufus is going to do yet. But it's hard to believe he'd ever want to come to a compromise.

[especially after yuffie almost assassinated him and then everything else went wrong, but you know. she's not going to out her like that.]

He has his own goals in mind, but we'll take care of him next.

[sootprints]

I see.

... It sounded like you were a fugitive. Is that true?

[residentflorist]

[well. there's no sense in lying, so.]

Yes. Members of Shinra wants all of us captured for different reasons...and for different prices.

[so there is always the threat of being sold out if they make the wrong move.]
