Anemone From the Greek anemōnē, "daughter of thew ind." The Anemoi were four wind gods in Greek mythology. Protection against evil or ill wishes. Red: Death or forsaken love
there's a faint pulse of pride that he actually bothered with nehan's name. kanda you're learning...also very funny he's the first to ask her about this, so her eyes widen and she nods.]
The wall of items, right? Yuffie and Anisphia managed to grab two...a bottle with a multi-colored and multi-toothed lizard, and a box with a rusted iron spike. The four of us couldn't touch them, so it's up to those two.
[HELP one of the benefits(?) of being an asshole who won't ask how she's doing... but he nods, and doesn't seem surprised.]
It was the same for us. Me and the fussy doctor had to bring what we found back. [...] They've got to be related to the ritual. That's why we don't need them here.
[Since they're out of the cult's reach and technically don't have to worry about the ritual anymore... that's what he's assuming, anyway. He's not really an optimistic person, but it's the only logic that makes sense to him.]
That's what we're thinking, too. Did you get a chance to read Aventurine's guide at all about the tomes we've been unlocking? There're some descriptions of ingredients needed for the ritual, even if we can't see all of them. But then...what, by taking these items are we deterring the cult from proceeding because they don't have the right ingredients?
Yeah. [He can read... and he did! It was something to focus on instead of getting lost in his thoughts about his murder/subsequent resurrection/post-CYOA trauma/etc. etc. He doesn't remember the exact details, but. Close enough.]
That or a counterspell. But they might not need one if the cult just can't do the spell right.
[It's not a real recipe... they can't swap 7-up for baking soda and have Scaramouche come out]
That's true, too. When I talked to Pestilence about these things, she brought up the recipe metaphor again. Like summoning the monsters was trying to add an ingredient, but it wasn't the right one, so things go a little sideways. But if you make the recipe with not-quite-right ingredients, it obviously turns out differently.
And even if they do manage to summon this god, without the right everything it could be someone who's just as mortal as we are. ["""mortal"""] Which if that happened, it should be easy to handle.
[Oh god not metaphors his brain is so small and smooth
Thankfully it's easy to follow. I think it would be hilarious if they just couldn't do the spell because we stole all their shit.]
They seem like idiots. [LIKE. LISTEN. It's not that he doesn't believe the Overseers that the cult is many and powerful. But also, he's judging so many of their choices all the time.] But we're running out of time, so I guess we'll know soon.
No, they are. [SHE JUST AGREES? the cult sounds stupid, but she thinks most people who are trying for a bid to power like this are stupid.] The overseers we know have changed they mind and were on our side in the beginning. But there's really no excusing the rest of the cult.
[...sigh.]
Another two and a half weeks or so. Think that's gonna be enough?
[This is all an elaborate level in Untitled Goose Game actually
He's quiet for a minute, debating.]
...If we can get enough of them over here, maybe. [It's where his own focus is right now, at least. He isn't a particularly optimistic person, and he's always done what he can to zero in on the hardest issues, the awful, necessary things no one wants to face. They're all in easy agreement that the cult needs to be stopped--but even he can acknowledge that dying to do it isn't easy.] It'll take time to convince them, though. Most people don't want to die, even if it's... [Not real? Temporary? God. He hates thinking about this so damn bad.] ...like this.
[she goes quiet with that, because...well. you know. dying is kind of a fun issue for her as it is, and moreso now.]
It's still going through the pain to get here. Physically and emotionally. Even if it's temporarily just to come here, it doesn't change how it feels at the time, right? They can know ahead of time and they can be prepared, but that doesn't predict how they'll feel at the actual time.
But how do you fix that and convince them it's for the best?
[Unless someone magically comes up with a way to defeat the cult tomorrow, they're almost out of time to even think of a plan, let alone set one up and enact it. As it stands, there are only two choices: Go through the pain and trauma of dying to escape to safety, or be sacrificed by the cult and die anyway.
But these are the types of rigid decisions Kanda is used to. He has mountains of baggage about death and revival, but he's been long trained to set that aside when necessary. His ability to face terrible, impossible decisions is a direct product of the world he was brought into from the moment he opened his eyes--a world where "fight or everyone dies" is the guiding principle.]
They're going to die either way unless the Masks come up with something. It's not a real choice.
Kill or be killed, then. We either take matters into our own hands or the choice will be made for us with results we don't want. [it seems simple to her to see it that way. they don't really know what the ritual will entail, but they've been referred to as sacrifices for so long that it's ignorant to think it doesn't involve their death. she kind of doubts the cult would care about something quick and painless either.]
The delay in our letters doesn't help. We have to start convincing them sooner than later to make sure there's time for the message to spread, but we can't do it too early and have them stop working toward finding out as much as they can on their side either.
As clear with the number as we can be. If it still doesn't stick, we'll take it up a notch. Ill just have to apologize later if it's too harsh to hear from us all of a sudden. But if it'll save them, I don't have a problem doing it.
...and Cloud's never been one to mince his words, so if they don't get it from that we're in bigger trouble.
[That's about all they can do, really. And she knows perfectly well that he favors straightforwardness, to the point of harshness, if it cuts through hesitation and gets things done.
But that's what he came to ask, so instead of changing the subject and seeing if she wants to talk about her trip like a normal person would do, he just pushes off the door to stand up straight.]
Thanks.
[Unless she has anything else, he will go and let her rest...]
[she knows. and she does actually admire that about him, even if it might annoy him to hear her outright say so. there are a lot of ways that kanda handles things that aerith thinks they need in their group to keep proceeding, but at the same time she also privately thinks the perhaps kanda maybe should not feel like this is what he has to do.]
Sure. [she doesn't mind that he came here for business. that sounds about right] Kanda. We'll catch up again later, okay?
